One day a dog was lying in a manger full of hay, taking a rest. The hay was warm and dry, and the dog felt very cozy.
A calf came into the barn and tried to eat some of the hay, but the dog began to snarl and bark, and would not let the calf touch the hay.
“Moo! Moo!” cried the calf, “you are a selfish fellow. You know that you cannot eat hay, and yet, you will not let those eat it who can enjoy it.”
